Welcome to our home! So, I figured since I'm always being asked, "What does your house look like?", I would create this blog to give you some insight. My husband, Darius and I purchased our first home in 2010. Nothing fancy just your standard 1,300 square foot attached town home with builder's grade everything. As soon as we walked in my husband knew this was the home for us. Actually, it was the funniest story how we got this house.
My mom found the home online through an auction website and told us to go look at it.
The auctioneer had an open house the day of the auction so we didn't have much time to discuss it or even think about it, but my husband knew it was the one. I mean he was adamant about this house, he said "Trina, God told me this was the house and we would pay $XXX,XXX for it and not a dime more. Which I thought was a bit far fetched being we only had about 20 minutes to even look around, no inspections, no time to think on it, NOTHING! So, I agreed but in my head I was like "Yeah, God told you alright; we'll see about that! Honestly I think I would have moved into a shack if it meant having my own home, we were getting married in a few months, we had been looking for awhile and we needed somewhere to go after the wedding, QUICK!
To make a long story shorter, the same day we viewed the home, we went to the auction to bid on it. The actual auction location was at another house that was to be auctioned off that day too. When we arrived the yard was full of people, there for all the different homes to be auctioned off that day. So, the auctioneer started the bidding at 1K and the crowd went crazy, I'll never forget it, Darius was so cool about everything. That auctioneer talked so fast I could barely make out the numbers but every few seconds Darius would raise his hand. I just sat and looked stupid, as stupid as I was confused. After about 7 minutes or so, (longest 7 minutes of my life waiting in anticipation), there were only two parties left bidding, them and DARIUS!
I never said a word the entire time. Then it happened, the auctioneer started coming close to the number Darius told me God had revealed to him not to go over. Man, you talk about nervous, I really wanted a house and between me and you, I had made up in my mind to go over just a little bit if it meant we won (May as well admit it, Jesus already knew :). Well, the steaks were high and the adrenaline was pumping and then it happened, I couldn't really make out a word the auctioneer had said the entire time but I clearly heard him when he spoke the number $XXX,XXX. Darius raised his hand, and the other party just stood there. "ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDING ME?"
The auctioneer said the number about 3 more times and the entire yard was silent. He announced the house was ours and instructed us to go inside to speak with the administrator for the deposit. I remember looking up at Darius in awe, "Who knew God was a realtor? "I learned something that day, and everyday since and I would have to remind myself of it over and over, "What God has for you is for you and no one can have it but you". The blessings of God will track you down and take you over.
For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God. -Katrina
